The Medical Council of India (MCI) has given its approval to two of the five Government Medical Colleges in the State to increase their intake of undergraduates for the academic year of 2013-14.
In a late evening development, the MCI has approved 100 seats, altogether, in Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI) and Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hubli.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, Minister for Medical Education Dr Sharanprakash Patil said that the other three government colleges are still under consideration by the MCI and it is likely to take another two days for their final decision.
“We are confident of receiving the other 300 seats, with the Bangalore Medical College (BMC) also vying for an additional 100 seats. We would like to wait as long as possible, before calling for the medical seats’ counselling. With June 31 being the last date, we will wait to ensure that more meritorious students have an opportunity to take seats in BMC,” he said.
