He was speaking at an interaction programme organised here on Sunday in memory of K Ramdas by the Desiranga Samskrithika Samsthe.
Nanjundaswamy, popularly known as MDN, began with Lohia’s principles. But, he gradually leaned towards leftists principles.He was also open for any debate in this regard, said Assadi.
He said MDN had vehemently opposed the World Social Forum in Mumbai. According to him, the forum was equal to an NGO, backed by foreign funds.
He also identified himself with the Mumbai Resistance (MR), an organisation that was also against the forum.
Assadi said, however MDN couldn’t emerge as a national leader like farmers’ leader Kishan Patnaik, who was aware of the burning issues in Karnataka.
Assadi said, Prof Ramdas, though a vociferous leader, didn’t leave behind much literature to follow. There is a need for re-orientation of Lohia’s thinkings, he said.
Prasaranga director Prof C Naganna said writing is an effeminate activity. Most of the intellectuals the country has seen are not pen pushers. The need of the hour is to collect the works of such personalities if any, Naganna said.
Stating that education is still to wake up those in deep slumber, Naganna said if any changes happen, it should be democratic, gradual and most importantly reach the people.
Prof S R Ramesh and Prof Shivaramu Kadanakuppe were also present.
