Speaking at the Foundation Day celebrations of Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL), Siddaramaiah said that the energy department was taking measures to prevent any shortage of power.

“The state has achieved self-sufficiency in power generation, and necessary steps will be taken to avoid any shortages in the future,” Siddaramaiah said.

Energy Minister K J George pointed out the need for energy storage despite sufficient generation.

“We are initiating pumped storage projects with capacities of 2,000 MW at Sharavati and 1,500 MW at Varahi. These projects will help store electricity and meet peak-time demand. The Sharavati project has already secured approvals from both the State and Central Wildlife Boards,” he said.

Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) and KPCL Managing Director Gaurav Gupta said that they had set higher targets for KPCL in the coming years.

“KPCL created an all-time record by generating 37,009 million units of electricity in 2024–25. Currently, KPCL meets 40% of the state’s power demand. Our target is to increase this share to 50% through sustained efforts,” he said.
