Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, wife of royal scion the late Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, on Monday, announced that the coronation ceremony of her adopted son Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, as the next king of the Yadu dynasty will begin on May 27.

Addressing media persons, at the Palace, Pramoda said, it will be a two-day ceremony, beginning with rituals on May 27. The coronation ceremony will be held on May 28, between 9.30 am and 10.35 am during the auspicious Karkataka lagna, at Kalyanamantapa, inside the Palace.

Pramoda said, “With Dasara fast approaching and the maharaja expected to take part in Navaratri celebrations, it was decided to hold the ceremony on the said day”.

“Unlike during the adoption ceremony held in February, when Yaduveer went on a procession outside the Palace in the evening hours, this time, he will visit the temples within the Palace precincts during the afternoon hours. On the same evening, after 6.30 pm, he will appear for a reception at the Durbar Hall, facing the Jayamarthanda gate, to enable the people to have a glimpse of their new maharaja. The Palace will be specially illuminated for the occasion,” she said.

Elaborating on the rituals, Pramoda said, “On the first day, ‘devaru’ (‘kalasha’ in local parlance for a tumbler of sacred water) will be brought from outside, followed by padapuja to Parakal mutt seer Brahmatantra Swatantra Swami. Prior to that, Yaduveer will be bathed in oil (enne snana) as per tradition.

The following day, the rituals will start with Lakshminarayana homa, Umamaheshwari homa, Pani Brahma homa and Sri Rama Tharaka homa. The rituals will be complete with Yaduveer adorning the ‘Bhadrasana’ (silver throne).

Owing to the space constraint, about 1,000 invitees, including close relatives, will be invited for the ceremony. No invitation cards have been printed for the ceremony as select people have been personally invited while invitation has been extend to others over phone, said Pramoda.

However, she said, the list of invitees is still being finalised and there is no decision yet on calling foreign guests.

Answering to a media query, Pramoda said, it was decided only on May 20, to hold the coronation ceremony within a week and the preparations are underway. To another question on extending invitation to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, she replied in the positive.
