The Nazarbad police claim to have arrested a man who made a call threatening to explode the office of the Superintendent of Police at Jalapuri on Thursday.

The caller, Shafi Mohammed, (48), a resident of Bharat Nagar in the city, is said to be mentally unsound.

During interrogation, Shafi admitted to have called up the city police control room at the police commissioner’s office at noon and threatened that a bomb had been planted at the SP office which would explode soon. The control room personnel alerted the jurisdictional Nazarbad police and also the SP’s office. SP Abhinav Khare was present in the office.
The SP office complex was vacated to facilitate the bomb detection squad to conduct the search operations.

The squad searched the Commissioner’s office too, a couple of roads away from the SP office.

The call was declared hoax after no explosive material were found at the offices.
The call was traced to Shafi’s house and police found the medical reports pertaining to his treatment at the Nimhans, Bengaluru. Shafi is known to abuse people and often makes prank calls from his wife’s cellphone.
