Speaking to reporters, he claimed 90 per cent of the people living in Latur, Jatta, Akkalakote, Gadahindlaja and south Solapur areas of Maharastra speak Kannada.

“Maharashtra Government is curtailing facilities for these people there and meting out a step-motherly treatment. Therefore, we must exert pressure on the Centre to merge these regions with Karnataka,” he stated.

Asserting that Belgaum is an integral part of Karnataka and Mahajan Commission report on the matter is final, he charged Maharashtra politicians with repeatedly provoking the self-respect of Kannada speaking people.
