A day after writers and thinkers took strong exception to privatisation of the scheme, members of the Karnataka Rajya Ashakara Dasoha Naukarara Sangha staged a protest in front of old central jail in Bangalore on Monday to register their protest. The members of the association, a majority of whom are rural women belonging to weaker sections of society, are apprehensive that they would be rendered jobless if the scheme is outsourced. On Sunday, at a seminar Baragur Ramachandrappa questioned the need of an elected government and representatives if the privatisation was the solution for all problems.
The sole intention of the scheme was to break the barriers of caste among school children and bring in harmony among them, he stated. But the government had neglected its intention by handing over the scheme to private players, he added.
