Students of the government schools in the hobli are likely to be deprived of their mid-day meals soon, thanks to cooking gas not being supplied to schools, right from the time they
reopened.
At the G Gollarahatti government primary school, the headmaster said they were making do with firewood for the past 20 days. But with firewood also being in short supply, food preparation has now been stopped completely.
The story is not just of the Gollarahatti school, but also that of the schools in the neighbouring Ganadhalu, Yagachihalli and Kampanahalli. The meals are presently being prepared using firewood in these schools. But, it is only a matter of a few days when the mid-day meals meet the fate of that in the Gollarahatti school. The headmasters of these schools have brought the matter to the notice of the Akshara Dasoha officials. Gollarahatti is a backward village in the hobli and has the highest number of students, including those coming from a distance of two to three km.
The parents of these children work in the mines and leave home early and return late in the evening everyday. This makes it difficult for them to prepare food for the children. Stopping mid-day meals will cause inconvenience for these children, says Govindappa, president of the School Development and Management Committee of the Gollarahatti school.
Akshara Dasoha officer Thimmaraju is evasive and says the schools do not come under his jurisdiction. TP President G R Seetaramaiah visited the Kampanahalli school on Wednesday. On finding that the mid-day meals were being cooked with firewood, he said that he would take up the matter with the officials concerned at the district level to solve the problem.
