He was reacting to complaints by headmasters of various government and government-aided schools over the delay.
“You know how the government administrative machinery functions. I do know that if the circular was issued before the academic year it could have eased the burden. However, it is still not too late. The GO issued in June-July of this year will help you in easing the examination correction burden,” he said.
The event organised by the Bangalore North Head Masters Association was attended by the District Educational Officer and the Block Educational Officer, apart from noted psychiatrist and writer Dr A Sridhar who spoke on the ill-effects of cellular phones on school children.
Sridhar argued, while on one hand the technological revolution has helped students to progress forward, it has violated the sanctity of schools.
“I am sure that when you are teaching students at the blackboard, some of them will be busy messaging on their cellphones. The first blow of technology has been on education and educational institutions,” he said.
Sridhar stated that the current situation at schools is visible to all. Students’ usage of mobile phones has increased since the inception of the technology. “It has been always hard to reign in teenagers in a school environment. With technology it has become that much more harder to keep them away from distractions,” he observed.
The renowned psychiatrist hoped that the headmasters who are the torch bearers of the their institutions will show the light and provide the leadership in trying to curb the influence of mobile phones within the schooling premises.
