The indefinite protest by private medical practitioners under the banner of the Indian Medical Association entered the third day on Wednesday.

Relatives of an ailing child arrived at the protest site, begging the medicos to end their protest. Ganga, a resident of Vadagaon, said her five-year-old child was suffering from epilepsy. She had admitted him to the Sai Hospital in Vadagaon. Since there was no one to attend to him there, she came to the venue seeking help. She said she could not get the scanning done and also, no proper treatment was given to the child at the government hospital.

The striking doctors did not go beyond expressing their sympathies with the mother. Congress MP Prakash Hukkeri met the doctors and expressed his support to their cause.

"The government should immediately hold discussions with the agitating doctors. Due to inadequate facilities at the primary health centres, community health centres and at the government hospitals, the government was dependent on private medical establishments and practitioners to ensure medical care to the citizens. Measures should be taken so that the medicos end their strike," he said, expressing his displeasure with Health Minister Ramesh Kumar for not holding a meeting with the doctors.
