Missing Cong leader found dead in Kadur

Social worker and Congress leader Vasudeva Adiga (43), who went missing on January 7, was found dead at Madagadakere in Kadur taluk, on Saturday.

The body bore multiple injuries. His two hands were tied and the body was dumped in the lake by tying a stone.

His identity was established on the basis of a chit named ‘Vasudeva Adiga’ in his pocket. It is suspected that he must have been killed three to four days ago.

MP Jayaprakash Hegde who visited the spot identified the body. The body has been sent to Shimoga for post mortem, said Circle Inspector Balachandre Gowda.

Adiga who was unmarried is survived by his mother and six brothers.

He was known as RTI activist in the district and was serving as the Kota Block Congress Vice-President. He had been fighting against illegal quarry in the district.

He went missing on January 7 night near Goliangady in the Shankaranayana police station limits. His mother had complained that he was kidnapped.

Speaking to presspersons, MP Jayaprakash Hegde said “Adiga was working in my office. As an RTI activist, he had collected lot of information on the illegal quarry functioning in the district. This is a planned murder. There is a mafia behind it, The police should probe into the incident from all angles and punish the guilty,” he said.
