The Karnataka bandh call, given by a section of pro-Kannada organisations, on Thursday, over the Mahadayi River water sharing dispute, evoked mixed response in Hassan, Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts.

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses, plying to Bengaluru and other districts, stayed off the roads, causing inconvenience to the public, in Hassan. But, city bus services were not affected. All government and private offices, educational institutions and business establishments functioned normally.

In Hirisave, members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike staged a protest by stopping Hassan-Bengaluru train for a while.

Mandya

The district administration had declared holiday for government and private schools on Thursday. The KSRTC had suspended bus service. All cinema theatres in the city remained closed. However, shops and other establishments were open.

KRV members tried to lay a siege to the railway station in Mandya, but the police foiled their attempts. They later staged a protest near the Post Office, raising slogans against the Centre.

The members of Kadamba Sene burnt an effigy of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to vent their ire. They took out a motorbike rally in the city. Karnataka Navanirmana Sene members staged a protest near Visvesvaraya statue and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.

Chamarajanagar

The bandh call evoked lukewarm response in Chamarajanagar district. Except for bus services, all shops and business establishments remained open. Schools and colleges functioned normally. However, shops on the main roads remained closed in Kollegal town.
