MLA H K Kumaraswamy and Assistant Commissioner Sri Vidya hold discussions on the wild elephant menace in Sakleshpur on Monday.

MLA H K Kumaraswamy directed the officials to provide road connectivity, power connection and other facilities to the villages that are suffering from wild elephant attacks.

Holding discussions with the officials of various departments to analyse the problems faced by the residents of the affected villages, he said that as there were various categories like social forestry and zonal forest department, a special squad should be appointed to control the wild jumbo attack. Additional vehicles and equipment should be provided, including crackers and diesel, he said.

He said the government’s compensation to crop loss was unscientific and demanded suitable compensation.

To prevent elephants from straying into the villages, the forest department should cultivate jack fruit trees and others which are liked by the jumbos, Kumaraswamy suggested.

The lone houses in the villages should be provided with power connection and priority should be given to streetlights. Taluk Panchayat executive officer should take in-charge of the same, he said.
