The allegations against MLC Allam Prabhu Patil on claiming reimbursement for an alleged hair transplant, have raised questions over reimbursement of medical expenses to legislators for cosmetic surgery.

The legislators in Karnataka do not have any ceiling on medical reimbursements. The government reportedly pays money on submission of a valid bill from a hospital, after following certain procedures.

On Wednesday, Patil claimed that a section of the media had ‘wrongfully’ reported that he had claimed reimbursement of Rs 1.2 lakh.

“I have a skin allergy problem for which I had to take two injections which cost Rs 1.2 lakh,” he said, adding that he had decided to forgo the reimbursement though he was entitled for it.
