Former Prime Minister and JD(S) leader H D Deve Gowda on Tuesday took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that the latter’s penchant for making “sarcastic remarks” against his political opponents lowered the dignity of the post he held.

He was responding to a question during an interaction organised by Deccan Herald – Prajavani on Modi recently terming the Mahagathbandan (grand alliance of opposition parties) as Mahamilavat (highly adulterated).

“Why should he be making such statements? It is unbecoming of a prime minister. All of us must understand that people of this country have the capability to understand which leader is talking what and they are capable of analysing it before they cast vote,” Gowda said.

Gowda said Modi claims as if every work in the country has been executed by him and due to his administration. “A PM should not have such an ego”, he said.

He said the claims made by Modi like cashless society, promising to deposit cash into the accounts of the poor have fallen flat. Gowda said the NDA’s base was eroding ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. “Modi knows this and is knocking the doors of various political parties,” Gowda said.
