The most awaited South West Monsoon set in Karnataka on Wednesday (June 7). The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced its onset on Wednesday afternoon, after assessing the wide spread rainfall which occurred across the state.

Speaking to DH, IMD- Bengaluru Director- in- charge L Ramesh Babu said that the most parts of coastal and south interior Karnataka experienced rainfall on Tuesday night, The winds are also favourable for the advancement of monsoon and this marks its onset.

The patterns seem favourable for the monsoon to further advance and cover the whole of Karnataka, he said. The SWM had set in Kerala on May 30 and it was to hit Karnataka two days after that, but was delayed because the systems were not favourable.
