The State government is considering a proposal to constitute Mothers’ Forum at all levels as an effective step to prevent the increasing assaults against women.
Disclosing this while speaking at the one-day Gulbarga Division workshop on ‘Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace’ here on Tuesday, Principal Secretary to Women and Child Development Department Dr Amita Prasad said that the greatest challenge was ‘how to prevent crimes against women’, particularly with the ever increasing sexual assaults and harassment of women at workplaces.
The workshop was jointly organised by the Administrative Training Institute (ATI) and the Karnataka State Commission for Women.
“There has been a proposal to constitute Mothers’ Forum at all levels. The Forum will take up the issues haunting women, in the right perspective and speak up for them in their defence,” she said.
She pointed out that the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day speech to mothers to question their sons on their antecedents and movements was very pertinent and has gone down well with all.
She said that every act and conduct of a person at a workplace vis-a-vis a woman may not be sexual harassment and there was a need to properly look into the complaint and sort out the issues through counselling.
She also asked every department to constitute a Local Complaints Committee as required under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013. The workshop was inaugurated by KSCW chairperson Manjula Manasa.
