Karnataka Examinations Authority’s (KEA) move to include agriculture and other related subjects under the ambit of Common Entrance Test, 2013 has been welcomed.
Basavesh Sheeri, a physically disabled student from Dharwad, who wants entry into the University of Agriculture Science, Bangalore, is glad he need not have to move around to increase his chances of getting into the college of his choice. “The centralised system is helpful as it cuts out possibility of going to a number of colleges to apply for the course,” he said.
From this year, in addition to courses like medicine and engineering, several courses in agriculture and other allied subjects in horticulture, veterinary science and animal husbandry and horticulture, have also been included.
As many as 3,000 seats will be alloted to students in universities like University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, Raichur and Dharwad; Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar and University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot.
Meanwhile, document verification of general merit candidates entered the second day with those ranked between 2,001 to 5,000 crowding the KEA office at Malleswaram. Instructions and guidelines for applicants on how to choose their seats online and provide their options will be given in a CD to be issued on June 8.
