The control room at Mysore City Corporation (MCC), serving the public 24/7, is all set to be shifted to an isolated structure with no proper facilities.
The change is due to N Raju’s appointment as the new MCC Additional Commissioner two months ago. He is presently housed in a room dedicated for the Opposition Party members near the Health Section on the first floor and would have to vacate it after the mayoral polls.
So, the officials are eyeing the control room, situated on the same floor, as it is well-furnished, even though there are many other vacant rooms, sources said.
“Not willing to invest in creating facilities in a vacant room, the officials are shifting Raju’s office to the spacious control room.”
“They are not bothered about the absence of basic facilities in the new structure, where the control room is supposed to be shifted,” complain officials, opting to remain anonymous.
Above all, three sections are being forced into congestion. The Legal Section, where the control room is being shifted now, is sharing the room with some other section.
The control room is one among the few chambers that have air conditioners (AC). As the use of computers in the computer section and the control room is maximum, they need ACs.
The control room, established by the then MCC commissioner P Manivannan, replaced manual complaints to a greater extent.
Four members each work in three shifts and receive complaints on phone or in person from people, enter them into the system and forward them to the authorities concerned.
Present structure
The room presently selected for the control room is behind the main structure of the MCC and has just one cupboard, congested for four members and lacks a toilet.
All the computers, internet, wireless and other equipment have to be shifted. As the place is isolated, it would not be suitable for women employees post evening, said sources.
Sources in the MCC told Deccan Herald, rather than shifting the whole well-established system, a vacant room could be furnished for the additional commissioner. However, both Raju and MCC Commissioner P G Ramesh insist on shifting the control room, they inform.
Ramesh refused to comment on the issue, but said facilities will be provided for the control room wherever it is shifted.
Raju said, he is unaware of the happenings. “I am not insisting on shifting the control room. But, I need a chamber from where I can function,” he added.
