At the progress review meeting of Union government-sponsored projects, MP C S Puttaraju took officials to task for breaching protocol while finalising the date for the launch of Amrut Yojana. The meeting was held at the Zilla Panchayat Auditorium here on Saturday.

When officials announced that District in-charge Minister M Krishnappa will lay the foundation stone for the projects taken up under Amrut Yojana on May 31, the MP, who was unaware about the programme, expressed his displeasure over the officials finalising the date without bringing it to the notice of the MP.

Puttaraju said that Hassan MP and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda had strived hard to bring Amrut Yojana to the district.

“Deve Gowda waited for hours in front of the office of Union Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, M Venkaiah Naidu, to ensure that the project is implemented in the district. Do you know what is protocol? Severe action will be initiated against officials if they fail to follow protocol,” he warned. Deputy Commissioner S Ziyaullah told the officials to follow protocol.

‘Improve healthcare sector’

The MP said that a majority of the primary healthcare centres and community health centres in the district lack basic facilities, and directed the officials to take immediate measures to augment infrastructure at PHCs.

“Similarly, taluk hospitals are not up to the mark as the buildings are in a dilapidated condition. All hospitals are also facing a shortage of staff,” he said.

District Health Officer (DHO) Dr K Mohan said that as many as 159 posts are lying vacant across the district and the department has submitted a report about shortage of staff. “A detailed report has been submitted to the ZP and Karnataka Health System Development Project (KHSDRP) in connection with the dilapidated condition of the buildings. The ZP has released Rs 45 lakh but renovation works need more funds,” he said.

MLA D C Thamanna asked officials to cancel the permit of electric contractors who failed to complete works within the stipulated time.

He said many contractors have not completed the works sanctioned under Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Programme and that the materials obtained from Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (Cesc) are being used for private works.

Cesc Executive Engineer (EE) Ravishankar said that errant contractors would be blacklisted and the corporation would issue notices to them. ZP CEO B Sharat, however, directed the EE to cancel the permit of such contractors.

ZP president J Premakumari, K R Pet MLA K C Narayanagowda, MLC Appajjigowda and Mandya City Municipal Council president Hosahalli Boregowda were also present.
