Farmers, fishermen and members of environmental organisations will stage a protest against the move to fix rate for the land to be acquired for MRPL’s expansion programme, in front of DC’s office on November 5.

Karavali Karnataka Janabhivruddi Vedike spokesperson T R Bhat told reporters at CBOO Hall here, that according to High Court’s directions the due process of law was not being followed in fixing the rate for land. “No consent from farmers had been obtained and a meeting of all stakeholders was also not allowed,” he charged.

AAP’s Rajendra Kumar and Activist Vidya Dinker said the petrochemical industry was set to acquire 1,011 acres of land. “No social impact assessment study has been done on the negative fallout of such an expansion programme. If MRPL is allowed to acquire the additional land, there will be another Bhopal-like tragedy,’’ they warned.
