The prestigious Dr Mallikarjun Mansur Samman, a national-level award, was presented to Hindustani vocalist Padmabhushan Begum Parveen Sultana at a colourful ceremony organised at Srujana Ranga Mandir in Dharwad on Wednesday.

Instituted by the Dr Mallikarjun Mansur Memorial Trust, the award carries a purse of Rs 1 lakh, a citation and memento.

The award was presented on Wednesday, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Pandit Mansur.

Rich heritage
Speaking after receiving the award, Sultana recalled the achievements of Mansur and said Dharwad had a rich cultural heritage and that she was happy that the tradition was being continued and enriched further.

She later enthralled the audience with her scintillating performance.
MLAs Arvind Bellad, Vinay Kulkarni, Deputy Commissioner and president of the Mansur Trust Rajendra Cholan and other dignitaries did the honours.
