New mutton market promises hygiene

Mayor Sandesh Swamy on Thursday laid foundation for the work. The project estimated to cost ` 96 lakh is funded by Mysore City Corporation. The new double-storeyed market, once completed will have a total of 90 shops, against 62 shops at present situated in a haphazard manner.

To make separate provisions, the ground floor will be restricted for mutton, and chicken and fish stalls will be in the first floor. Separate facilities to clean and wash meat will also be created.

According to sources, the market currently spread in an acre had vacant space left that will be utilised for the new structure. Once the work starts, the existing traders will be provided with temporary shops. They will be guaranteed shops in the new market, while the remaining stalls will be auctioned as is the procedure. The work is expected to be completed in six months of its launch.

Area Corporator M J Ravikumar, Deputy Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath and Assistant Commissioner, Zone-Six, Thimmappa were present.
