The accused is identified as Yesudas of Pushpagiri.  A portion of the clay idol, fixed to a wooden Cross was broken on Wednesday afternoon. However, the incident came to light on Thursday.

The Cross was nailed to the wall of a shelter in the graveyard, where funeral masses are held.

A few graves covered with sand were also damaged. The wooden Cross bearing the name of the dead, was found burnt on one side.

The cemetery supervised by Infant Jesus Church nearby, is located between K R Mills Colony and Pushpagiri. It is frequented by Roman Catholics.

Francis, a local resident entrusted with the job of looking after the place, told Deccan Herald that as shards of glass have been cemented to the compound to check illegal entry, the prankster may have jumped across the gate.

The cemetery spread over an acre of land was built just three years ago. There were some strong objections when the land was purchased for the cemetery a decade ago as it  overlooked K R Mills Colony.
