Mysuru: Mysuru Dasara has been a platform for women, children and even transgenders to display their talents, engage senior citizens and to also inspire farmers.

Women's Dasara

Women's Dasara from September 23 to 26, will provide opportunities for women to showcase talents and women entrepreneurs to sell their products at J K ground. Besides the fashion show of ethnic wear on September 24, 25 women dressed up in Mysore silk saree, adorned with jasmine flowers can participate in a walkathon from the north gate of Palace to J K ground. Taking a break from routine, women can even sit back and enjoy inspirational talks by experts on women empowerment, self protection and even cultural programmes, humour shows. They can participate in contests of Rangoli to ragi grinding and games. Senior citizens can enjoy some games and transgenders will present cultural programmes on September 26.

Farmers' Dasara

Farmers' Dasara will begin with a procession. There will be felicitation of progressive farmers to inspire farmers besides workshops on farm techniques. They can even enjoy cultural programmes at Alumni's association auditorium of MMC and RI on Sept 26. There will also be an expo to educate farmers about the latest farm technologies, water management measures and more on the same day. There will be State level milking (Haalu kareyuva) contest on September 27, pet show on September 28 at J K Ground.

Children's Dasara

Children's Dasara will begin with Kalathon-with a procession of about 1,000 school children from across the district dressed up in different costumes from the north gate of Mysuru Palace to Kalamandir at 9:30 am on September 23. Kalathon will also feature folk cultural performances by children like Soligara kunitha by tribal children, Pooja kunitha, Huli vesha, Veeragase, Yakshagaana, Gaarudi gombe, Dollu kunitha, Sufi dance besides band sets. Two day event will feature cultural programmes by children at Kalamandira including those from Ashrama school of Nagapura tribal hamlet, Bylkuppe Tibetan settlement and children of mahouts.
