The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), as part of its continued effort to stay connected with the people, has installed huge LED display screens at prominent circles in the city.
Under its Information, Education and Communication (IEC) programme, the MCC has erected LED screens at five vantage points in the city - Hardinge or Jayachamarajendra Circle, near railway station, Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, Ramaswamy Circle and Vontikoppal Circle (KRS Road).
Popular tourist spots of the city like Mysuru Palace, zoo and a panoramic view of the Chamundi Hill are on display on the screens. As the screens have been installed at places where movement of people, especially tourists, is more, it helps them educates them about places of cultural and heritage importance.
With Swachch Survekshan 2019 under progress, the MCC’s priority is to keep the city clean and messages and videos related to it are displayed on the LED screens. Various steps taken by the MCC to maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the city are also screened.
Besides, documentaries on water conservation, solid waste management, energy conservation, Swachch Bharat Survekshan and other topics are screened.
Speaking to DH, MCC commissioner K H Jagadeesh said the LED screens had been installed as part of the IEC programme.
“The screens will be used to convey messages on the importance of saving water for the future, using alternative sources of energy like solar, slogans on environment, Swachch Survekshan, popular government schemes and MCC’s services to the people like helpline, for the benefit of the people,” he said.
As there is good feedback, the MCC is planning to utilise the facility for publicising the Pulse Polio programme, voters’ awareness and also during Dasara festival. Talks will be held with the police department to screen clip on traffic awareness, he said.
G R Suresh, Deputy Commissioner, Development, MCC, said the LED screens had been installed at a cost of Rs 18 lakh each. The screens will function from 10 am to 10 pm, with necessary breaks, he said.
