Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri has warned against the use of single-use plastics.
In a meeting with the heads of local bodies, including Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), on Thursday, the DC gave a month deadline to put an end for using banned plastic. Stringent action would be taken on those violating the orders from April 5, the DC warned.
It is inevitable to control the use of banned plastic to protect the environment. All the shops across the district must use alternatives like cloth or paper bags for plastic, she suggested.
A one month deadline has been given to the shopkeepers to shift from banned plastic to paper or cloth material. Initially, the move will be implemented effectively at MCC limits and then in rural Mysuru, the DC said.
The DC also warned action against discharging waste water to the rivers without treatment. Waste water from Hunsur, Nanjangud, T Narasipura and Bannur towns should not be discharged directly to Cauvery, Kapila and Lakshmanthirtha rivers. The water should either be released after treatment or it should be recycled, she suggested.
MCC Commissioner Shilpa Nag, Superintendent Engineer Biligiri Rangaswamy and others were present.
