B S Nagendra Prakash, a professor of civil engineering at the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE), under Bangalore University, officially took charge as the registrar of Mangalore University on Wednesday.

The government had issued the order appointing Prof Prakash as the registrar of Mangalore University on December 1. Although he had arrived in Mangaluru on December 5, he could not take charge as vice chancellor Prof K Byrappa was out of station. However, on December 8, Prof Prakash "assumed office" as registrar Prof Lokesh did not turn up in the office.

On Wednesday, Prof Prakash officially took charge from Prof Lokesh, who will return to the History Department, which is his parent department.

Quite interestingly, a press release issued on December 14, and signed by the new registrar Prof B S Nagendra Prakash himself, states that he assumed the charge on December 5.
