Former minister and JD(S) leader M C Nanaiah has opposed the BBC documentary on the Delhi gang rape stating it was done with a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of India.
Nanaiah, who heads a government constituted committee on women’s safety, was interacting with the media on Monday in Bengaluru.
The former law minister said it looked like the script for the interview with convict Mukesh Singh in the documentary ‘India’s Daughter’ had been pre-planned. “It appears that the convict had been told what to state in the interview just to portray Indian men in bad light,” Nanaiah said. He said a BBC editor too had faced charges of sexual harassment but there was no mention of it anywhere. Nanaiah said he welcomed the Centre’s decision to ban the documentary.
Nanaiah also gave a clean chit to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on the Arkavathi denotification issue. He said he had studied the documents pertaining to Arkavathi denotification in detail and was convinced that Siddaramaiah had done nothing wrong. Siddaramaiah had abided by the court’s parameters while “deleting” lands from final notification, he said.
