Four Maoists reportedly visited Kalur, the native village of Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah on Monday.

The gun-toting youths, including two women, entered a few houses in the village which is 12 km from the city. They escaped into the forests, taking away rice and pulses, village residents told the police.

Sources said Maoists were spotted in Kodagu district for the first time. Superintendent of Police Manjunath Annigeri said that a team led by DySP Rajiv Mang had been sent to the village to ascertain the claim of the Maoists’ visit. It is said the naxals visited Mandalpatti, Galibeedu and other places as well.

Sources claim that the naxals had kept three villagers hostage. But police sources did not confirm the claim.
