The country which had undertaken the exercise of drafting its new Constitution is looking towards India to help sort out some of the major issues.
Led by Suprabha Ghimire of the Nepali Congress, a delegation of 15 women
parliamentarians (Constituent Assembly members) that visited the offices of the Governor and Legislative Assembly Speaker in Bangalore on Thursday, is also keen to learn more about the Hindu Succession Act (Equal Inheritance Law). Renu Chand (28) of the UCPN (Maoist) said that the delegation wanted to learn more about the federal structure in India.
Chand also wanted to know the number of women elected representatives in Karnataka.
She said that of the 601 members in the Nepalese Constituent Assembly, 197 of them were women. There were three key issues that the drafting committee had to sort out -- the electoral system; the federal structure; and decide on who should be the executive head – the prime minister, or the president, Chand said.
