Udupi: A 65-year-old man from Nepal succumbed to injuries sustained when a car in which he, along with his family and friends, were travelling to Goa via Mangaluru and Udupi, met with an accident at Navunda in Baindoor taluk of Udupi district. Four others in the car from Nepal have suffered injuries.

According to the police, the deceased is Pamba Chhiri Sherpa.

In a complaint, Sonam Jangbu Sherpa said that he along with his wife Ang Jangmu Sherpini (60) along with their relatives Pamba Chhiri Sherpa (65), his wife Kandu Sherpiri (65), and complainant's brother-in-law Anima Sherpa (65), travelled from Nepal for a tour and medical check at a hospital in Hyderabad on December 2.

After staying in hospital for three days, they arrived at the Namdroling Monastery in Kushalnagar on December 8. On December 11 late at night, they left Kushalnagar in a car driven by Mahamad Shareef, heading towards Goa via Mangaluru and Udupi.

The driver lost control due to high speed and negligence at Navunda and the car veered to the left and collided with a stationary truck on the left side of NH 66.

All passengers sustained injuries, and Pamba Chhiri Sherpa (65) succumbed to his injuries. The injured were admitted as inpatients at Kundapur Hospital and are undergoing treatment.

A case has been registered at Baindoor police station under Sections 281, 125(a), 106 BNS.
