The City Council voted unanimously to approve the settlement.

The agitation of residents against the proposed ultra mega power project at Niddodi, 35 km from Mangalore, intensified and created a tense atmosphere in the village on Monday, when Congress leaders led by AICC member P V Mohan visited the spot.

Annoyed over the frequent visits of leaders and their fake assurances for political gains, the villagers, specially women, assembled in large numbers, holding broomsticks and sandals to protest against politicians. They took exception to the leaders keeping the villagers in the dark while implementing the project.

“When you have no answers to our questions, why do you come here at all,” they asked.
At one point, the angry villagers threw stones at the vehicles of the Congress leaders. After seeking the opinion of the people, Mohan said he had visited Niddodi as per the directions of Union Road Transport Minister Oscar Fernandes and he would submit reports on the issue to Fernandes and AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh soon.
