JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda campaigned for his grandson Nikhil at Halaguru and nearby villages in the taluk on the last day of public campaigning.

"It is not my decision to field Nikhil in Mandya. It is the decision of the MP and eight MLAs. It is your responsibility to ensure his victory," he said.

He urged the people to vote for the coalition candidate to keep the communal party away. MLA K Annadani, JD(S) state president A H Vishwanath and MLC Marithibbegowda accompanied him.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy was given a rousing welcome at Taggahalli in Mandya taluk, where he began his campaign on Tuesday. He took out a roadshow at Basaralu, Keragodu, Hallagere, Chikkaballi and other places.

“The Independent candidate is seeking votes in the name of 'abhimana' and sympathy. But, I have been responding to the farmers' problems and seeking support. Please elect those who respond to your problems," he said.

At Tendekere in KR Pet taluk, he appealed to the people not to give attention to any rumour and support Nikhil. Commenting on BJP MLA Madhuswamy's accusation that he had abandoned his father Deve Gowda during difficult times, the chief minister said, “He has gone mad. He is making baseless allegations against me and my father. I will give him a befitting reply in the Vidhana Soudha. There is no need to attach importance to it".

MLA Narayanagowda and Minister C S Puttaraju accompanied him.
