Union Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday met the family of missing fishermen — Chandrashekar Kotian and Damodar Salian, who were among seven fishermen who went missing on board fishing boat Suvarna Tribhuja from Malpe in Udupi on December 15.

She promised the family members of intensifying the search operation and appealed to the family members to visit New Delhi after the election and she will arrange an interaction with the Navy personnel.

Coming down heavily on JD(S) -Congress Coalition candidate Pramod Madhwaraj’s allegation that Naval ship was responsible for the disappearance of the fishing boat, she said “a responsible person should not come up with such an irresponsible statement. If he has any evidence, then he should hand it over to us.”
