According to terms of power sharing agreement, Venkatesh had to demit office after ten months. Since he failed to do so, a faction of the Congress members has moved the no confidence motion.

A meeting of the Congress disciplinary committee held in Bangalore had issued a whip directing the members not to move a no-confidence motion. However, the whip has been violated. Fourteen members voted in favour of the motion while Zilla Panchayat president Vinuta Srininvas, who presided over the meeting abstained from voting. Venkatesh was absent in the meeting.
