Dr R H Patil, incharge of NKAFC, which started functioning from the last month, told reporters here on Tuesday that the rabi crop had been a total failure in almost all parts of the state and 125 taluks were facing one of the worst droughts.

The farmers were eagerly waiting for pre-monsoon rains which have given the region a miss. There is a severe deficit of pre-monsoon showers in Malnad, interior Karnataka and the coastal regions. According to reports, there is a deficit of 61.6% in pre-monsoon rains.
