Medical Education Minister D K Shivakumar announced that the state government would establish a nursing university soon.

He added that the proposal would be approved during the upcoming winter session of the legislature, beginning on December 10, at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi.

Speaking at an international nursing conference in Belagavi, Shivakumar said that Karnataka was well known for medical tourism.

He said the nursing university proposal had been submitted to Rajiv Gandhi Health University and the government had sought legal advice.

The minister hailed KLE Society for its commitment to providing quality education. The institution had achieved what the government had not. The minister participated in KLE Society's 103rd foundation program. Earlier, society chairman and Rajya Sabha Member Prabhakar Kore spoke.
