Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, he said “an expert committee has been constituted by the government to study the health hazards in the thermal power plant.

However, the Committee has stated that it will submit its report within three to six months. We want the report to be submitted within three months and the government should act on the report.”

The government has accepted our demand to include two experts nominated by us.

They are State Biofuel Task Force Chairman Y B Ramakrishna and Centre for Ecological Studies of Indian Institute of Science Professor K B Ramachandra.

He said he would decide his future course of action on UPCL after verifying the report of environmental impact study by the experts.

“We are not against UPCL. However, they should set right the loopholes and rectify the problems posed to the environment and health of the people. Vegetables have been affected in and around the region owing to fly ash.”

“The wells have been polluted in the region. It is the responsibility of the government and the company to set right the loopholes. If the loopholes were not set right, then the thermal plant must be closed down,” he added.
