District-in-Charge Secretary Dr Rajkumar Khatri directed the officials to ensure that the people in rural and urban areas do not face shortage of water during summer.

Chairing a review meeting on tackling drought and drinking water problem in Virajpet on Wednesday, he said the officials should lay emphasis on proper water and fodder supply to cattle in summer. Electricity should be supplied to drinking water projects at the earliest, he added.

Khatri said the construction work of the taluk office building should be speeded up. If the work fails to reach the roof level by February-end, then the PWD executive engineer will be held responsible, he warned.

Deputy Commissioner Meer Anees Ahmmed said the officials should ensure that the benefits of social security schemes reach all the beneficiaries. The financial assistance should be provided to poor for performing of last rites of their relatives, he added.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Charulatha Somal provided details on the construction of toilets at Karike and the schools which lack toilet facilities.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) G R Basavaraju said Ksheerabhagya, mid-day meal scheme, distribution of uniforms and cycles have been implemented in the district.
