The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), along with MRPL, successfully conducted oil spill mock drill at Single Point Mooring (SPM) in association with all the stake-holders.

About 500 metres of inflatable booms laid out encircling the SPM. Disk type skimmer also tried out which is normally used to skim the oil from water.

Representatives from NMPT, MRPL, District Disaster Management, Coast Guard and IOCL left NMPT harbour in the morning by tug Bhuvana and returned in the afternoon after conducting the drill. Scenario for the drill was pipeline leakage from SPM.

Floating buoy

SPM is a floating buoy for handling of crude oil from very large tankers which is located at a distance of 17 km away from the berths for import of crude oil for MRPL. The NMPT and MRPL are now fully prepared to meet eventualities like oil pollution within NMPT waters.
