Mysuru: Upalokayukta K N Phaneendra took up 73 pending cases before the Lokayukta pertaining to T Narsipur, Periyapatna, Nanjangud and Saligrama taluks during his second day of sitting for speedy disposal of those pending cases at the main hall of Zilla Panchayat in Mysuru on Friday.
Apart from complainants and opponents, SP Lokayukta Mysuru T J Udesh, Mysuru DC G Lakshmikanth Reddy, Member Secretary of District Legal Services Authority K K Amarnath, all the officials against whom the complaints were registered, took part in the meeting. He inquired the complainants and spoke to those, who were not present, over the phone and passed the orders to disposed of several cases, on the spot.
Phaneendra said that the officials should respond to the grievances of the people who visit their offices, by upholding human values. They should resolve the issues legally and ensure justice to the people, if it is in their jurisdiction, or else they should guide them on whom to approach. They should ensure that there are no lapses. If the officials respond to the public grievances efficiently, people don’t have to appeal to agencies like the Lokayukta. It is the responsibility of the officials to ensure that all the development programmes, planned for the welfare of people, reach them. People should also talk and behave respectfully with the officials.
Delay in documentation
On Friday too, most of the complaints were related to delay in documentation of lands, related to Revenue department. Some were related to the functioning of the officials and about failure in securing government lands, which were encroached upon, and a few were about sub-standard government works, like roads.
Yogesh from Hanumanaalu of T Narsipur taluk complained that the officials had failed to clear encroachment of a government road next to survey no 26 to 36 in his village.
D Nagaraju from Bairapura of T Narsipur taluk alleged that officials and staff of the gram panchayats were not coming to their office on time. Rachappa of Ambedkar Colony, Hyakanuru village of T Narsipur taluk, complained of substandard work of concrete road work taken up at a cost of Rs 57 lakh in the SC Colony of Vatalu village in 2021-22.
While addressing a suo moto plaint related to repair of 2.5 lakh litre capacity overhead tank at Talakad, he directed the officials to frequently inspect the status of drinking water overhead tanks.
While handling a case, Phaneendra told the complainant that if he is not satisfied with the orders of the Lokayukta, they can appeal before the High Court or file a fresh complaint with the Lokayukta. But, they cannot appeal to reconsider or amend the same order.
