Yakshagana artistes on Thursday educated the public on safe delivery methods and government schemes available for pregnant women.
The musical play was part of the World Population Day celebrations organised by the Department of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.
The event held at Chitrakala Parishat was attended by Health Minister U T Khader, departments principal secretary Madan Gopal and director Dhanya Kumar.
Speaking at the event, the minister said, “Population does not just mean talking about the mother or father, or a wife or husband. It is not about an individual, but the complete family.”
On July 11, 1987, the world population reached the five-billion mark and since then, the day is being celebrated as World Population Day.
The Yakshagana threw light on the various issues like the dangers of a woman delivering babies at home and also the benefits offered by the government when she does it in government hospitals.
The minister emphasised on the necessity of improving the quality of life in rural areas.
“While the population is increasing, the quality of life is not keeping pace. We need to look into it and ensure every individual leads a good life,” he said.
