Opposition parties, the BJP and the JD(S),  on Wednesday, demanded that the state government should take over the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project as per the recommendations of a legislature committee that submitted its report last year.

Raising the issue in the Legislative Assembly, JD(S) floor leader H D Kumaraswamy said the project promoter, Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) has thrown all rules to the wind while implementing the project. The promoter has been given hundreds of acres of valuable land around Bengaluru in violation of the framework agreement of the project, he charged.

The government should take over the project by enacting a legislation. This will enable the government to take back the land and provide justice to hundreds of farmers who have lost their lands, he added.

BJP MLA S R Vishwanath said the promoter has sold hundreds of acres of land meant for the project. It has also taken up real estate development. It is not proper on the government's part to sit on the committee's report. People are doubting the intentions of the government, he added.
