When mango spread on roadside draws the attention of every passerby, what if it’s put on offer in a festive like occasion? 

There will be milling crowd, vying with each other to pick the best among the lot.

That’s exactly what happened at ‘Mango, Jackfruits Mela’ organised at Nesara, an organisation involved in promoting organic farming, on its premises on Geetha road in Chamarajapuram.

As mentioned above, jackfruits was also available, and there was no dearth of fruit lovers, weighing between the two. Whether to take home mango, or jackfruit, forget its sticky content.

No sooner the mela opened for the day at 10 am, fruit lovers walked straight towards mangoes and jackfruits.

There was also a mix of alphonso, besides regular badami, totapuri and mallika, but it didn’t dampen the spirit of buyers, who have a penchant for experiment. It was available at Rs 45 per kg.

Hari of Hari Giri Farms whose organically grown mangoes and also jackfruits were on sale, told Deccan Herald, they have brought close to three tonnes, and expect to empty by a day or two.

It’s obvious for him to exude confidence, with the melas that preceded that of Saturdays’ had made roaring business.

Chandrashekar of Indraprasta Farms also had a share in jackfruits, with some of the fruits coming from his farm on H D Kote road.

It was also time to pamper taste buds with food from the cauldron of organically grown ingredients.

While Chandrashekar had brought coffee made of arecanut, ‘masala majjige’ (butter milk) among other drinks, Ruchi Sringara, make-shift hotel, again of Hari Giri Farms had eatables aplenty.

Instant food products like jackfruit papad, rasam and sambar powder were also on sale.
