Udupi Zilla Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Sanghatane organised a Padayatra on Monday to Commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to Udupi on February 25, 1934.

On the occasion, KPCC working president Eshwar Khandre said the BJP had hijacked Congress’ ‘Nirmala Bharat’ concept and renamed it as ‘Swacch Bharat.” Under Swacch Bharat, the Central government provides only Rs 4,000 and the remaining Rs 11,000 is state government’s contribution, he said.

He accused the BJP of taking credit for housing schemes of the state government. There is a need to create awareness on this. False propaganda is being carried out against Priyanka Gandhi soon after her announcement to enter politics was made, he charged.

He said, “All the promises made by BJP during 2014 Lok Sabha polls were not implemented. The farmers’ suicide could not be stopped. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bhima Yojana has failed. Demonetisation has taken away employment.”

District Congress Committee President Ashok Kodavoor and others were present.
