Panel to monitor activities at adopted government schools

The adviser to state government (education reforms) Prof M R Doreswamy has constituted a state-level advisory committee to monitor development activities in government schools adopted by elected representatives and various organisations, including higher education institutions.

The committee includes former vice chancellor of Bangalore University Prof Siddappa, MLC H Vishwanath, vice chancellor of PES university J Surya Prasad, retired IAS officer Madangopal, academician Karan Kumar and Tejaswini Ananth Kumar, managing trustee of Adamya Chetana Foundation.

The committee will visit the schools adopted by various people and organisations and inspect the facilities provided as also the maintenance of the same.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Prof Doreswamy said, "I want to thank all those who adopted government schools and request others to adopt schools as well. The number of people who adopt government schools should increase as there is a need to provide various basic infrastructure facilities to government schools."

Prof Doreswamy said that since the announcement of government school adoption in the state budget last year, as many as 3,000 schools have been adopted by various people and organisations.

Among the elected representatives, Ramalinga Reddy, MLA and former minister, adopted the highest number of government schools in his constituency, he said.
