The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) on Friday warned parents against submitting false income certificates to get seats for their wards under the RTE quota. Commissioner of Public Instruction Mohammed Mohsin, in a circular on January 17, said there have been several complaints about fake income certificates.

“The officials have to conduct a thorough verification of the family’s income before issuing the certificates. A letter in this regard has been sent to all the district officials concerned,” the circular stated. If any income certificates are found to be fake, the admission of such children will be cancelled, said the commissioner. Officials have been asked to give first preference to children whose family income is below Rs 1 lakh. After this, students within Rs 3 lakh income would be given preference.
