JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy on Friday said Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was continuing to humiliate and discriminate against Karnataka and Kannadigas.

Reacting to the developments concerning the Mahadayi water dispute over the last two days, Kumaraswamy said that the people of north Karnataka should not count on the assurances made by the BJP leaders, as they would be hoodwinked.

Speaking to reporters here, Kumaraswamy said Parrikar, while assuring water to Karnataka on humanitarian grounds, had, however, told the Goa media that the dialogue would be initiated only if the BJP comes to power in the state (Karnataka).

"Parrikar has said that he trusts only B S Yeddyurappa and not the Karnataka chief minister, and that by the time the talks are initiated, the BJP will be in power in Karnataka. His letter to Yeddyurappa is just a ploy to ensure that the BJP wins the next Assembly elections. The BJP leaders are indulging in a double game," he said.

Kumaraswamy said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had written 10 to 15 letters to the Goa chief minister since 2015, but to no avail.

"The central BJP leaders are trying to mislead the voters - they are indulging in cheap politics. If Parrikar doesn't trust the Karnataka chief minister, then who will he discuss the matter with?"

Kumaraswamy said Parrikar had also told the media in Goa that the state would set up pumping stations, which would be monitored by the Goan authorities.
