The coupon system to get food grains under the public distribution system (PDS) will be extended to all fair price shops, including rural areas, across Karnataka from January 31, said secretary for food and civil supplies Harsh Gupta.
Addressing journalists at the deputy commissioner’s office here after chairing the progress review meeting of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Harsh Gupta said that Aadhaar-linked coupons will be made available at all the fair price shops and service centres across Karnataka from January 31 onwards.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will launch the coupons at a programme in Bengaluru, he said.In all, there are 20,000 fair price shops in the state and the coupon system has been implemented at 6,000 shops. It will be extended to all the shops, Gupta said.
